Colonization
From IceWars Documentation
During the game every player asks the question to himself, whether to add a new world to his empire. Therefore it has to be said, that you take advantage of colonizing a new world in economic and military way. But before you have to look at some things:
- Research: colonization of Chunk of stone
- A new colony needs a free stage of colonization center.
(At the beginning every player has one free colony. Afterwards you will have to build a colonization center for a new one)
- A colonization ship must be available. Here you have to watch out, that there is an INS-03A type and one that is not able to leave the galaxy. (KISS)
- The planet has to be up to the populations standard, that means basically that the gravitation has to be in a habitable range, and the type of planet can be colonized. Have a look at the General information menu to see what you can colonize.
- The planet must be unsettled and no base is allowed to be built on it.
Hint: Knowledge is power. Get to know the planet's attributes around your homeworld. Never just colonize a world, just because it's close, but probe around 20-100 solar systems around your home world with scouts or probes.
Every planet has different features (A planet - More than a chunk of rock) making it possible to use it in different ways. It won't be possible to satisfy each economic requirement with each planet.
Hint: It could for example make sense to get chemical elements for one world on one planet while providing it with ice in return.
Hint: In the chaos-galaxies, values of features of planets vary significantly more than in the galaxies you are allowed to start your game in. It could be beneficial to look for a colony for mining iron or chemical elements there, especially as long as you cannot settle on asteroids or gas giants yet.
If you have decided for a planet and are about to start your colony ship, you should think about one thing: the new world does not have sufficient storage capacity to provide it with a whole load of all resources at once. It makes more sense to just take resources it takes to increase storage capacity and to feed your population (water!) for a short while. The rest can be delivered later using transporters.
Storage capacities of a new colony:
- Iron/steel/VV4A: unlimited
- Water/ice/chemical elements/energy: 5000 each
When colonising with an ordinary colonization ship, it starts building a colonisation center with a bit of iron, steel and energy production as well as an icecrusher and an immersion heater, which will take some time. When colonising with an interstellar ship, it's only the colonisation center that's being build, you'll have to build your icecrushers and immersion heaters yourself. And, in both cases, you won't get your ships back.
Hint: As long as the colonisation central is being build, you are not consuming anything. For example, if you forgot to put water on your colony ship, you have some time before it actually has any effect.
Hint: Whoever thinks that he is clever and can settle cheaply and conveniently in other galaxies by buying KISS ships in this galaxy and using a battlestation, must be warned: Planets can only be colonised if the starting planet of the colony ship is a planet itsself.
The maximum number of planets is limited by the levels of colonisation centers you can build and amounts to 10, including your main planet.
