A planet - More than a chunk of rock

From IceWars Documentation

Jump to: navigation, search

Every planet has its own characteristics that will make it better in some and worse in other points. You can scan these caracteristics with a geological analysis. This can be done by probes or by a scout. Just send your scout or probes to the planet you are interested in and select probe - geological analysis. The scan will be send to you with some explanations about its meaning right after it is done.

Your own planets' characteristics can be seen in the economy - colony menu.

[edit] Planet types

The type of the planet first of all affects the planets characteristics. For example Asteroids have better iron deposits than normal planets, but in turn lack in living conditions (see the list below for detailed information).
The second thing to keep in mind is, that there is a research for every type of planet. You can only colonize a planet of a certain type, if you've completed the appropriate research.

[edit] You can colonize the following:

Chunk of stone
Asteroid
Ice planet
Giant gas ball

[edit] Things you won't ever colonize:

Nothing
Electricity storm
Ion storm
Space distortion
Gravitation anomaly

normal characteristics
nebula
chaos galaxy characteristics

Deposit iron/chem. elements/ice

Those values modify the output of the buildings mining resources. They depend on the type of the planet, but also vary a bit. If you mine ice, ice deposit decreases, while the other two ressource deposits do not change if you mine them. The basic values for iron and chemical elements are 100%, every percentage point on top of that increases the production of the planet by 1%. The basic value for ice is 30%, by mining it, the ice deposit of a chunk of stone can decrease to a 5% minimum.

Living conditions and gravitation

These values do also depend on the type of planet and have a random component. They influence the development of the population and its satisfaction. While satisfaction and growth of population are negatively influenced by a high gravity (over 1.0), the same does not apply vice versa. Low gravity does not have advantages. Both factors influence Tax income.

Maximal population

The maximal population determines how many people can live on the planet. A planet with maximum population 10 000 can only hold 10 000 people, even if you have 50 large houses there. However, this factor usually only becomes a nuisance on asteroids.

Research modifier

Modifies output of research labs. It is 100% for every planet, except when research-increasing buildings have been built or if it has features that constrain research.

Building costs/building time/shipbuilding costs/shipbuilding time modifier

As the name already suggests, these are modifiers for building buildings and ships. They depend on the planet and its features, but are not subject to random variations.
